Bridging usb fuse didnt work?

Ok so i have a phat PSP 1000. My USB plugin doesnt work, its not recognized on any PC or PS3. I took it to a buddy of mines place cuz his brother has a soldering iron. I pointed out the fuse for him, and told him to just solder right over the fuse and connect the two ends. He ended up removing the old fuse all together and bridging it with a copper wire.

The USB still didnt work after this. So i took it apart and tried bridging the fuse with various screwdrivers and other small metal objects just to see if it would pop up on the PC at all. Still nothing. What gives?
