Hi guys! Okay, so a kid sold me a bricked PSP (1004) which I was hoping to use for parts. He told me his friend dropped it and it hasn't worked since. That's all I know. The screen is definitely dead (lovely crack in it) but the rest of it seems fine except for one thing.

When I try to turn it on (using either battery or power adaptor, and with or without the battery present) the power on light flickers on and off, once, for a split second. That's as far as it will go. I've tried using a different battery and lead and get the same result.

To try to isolate the problem I stripped it down and tried using a different power board. Same problem. I then tried powering up only the main board, out of the case, with a working power board and battery. Same problem. So I know the problem lies somewhere with the main board. (I did the exact same thing with a work main board and the exact same battery and power board just to check and it powered up and down just fine)

I've never hacked a PSP before, only performed hardware repairs, and since I can't get this one to power up I have no idea if it has been hacked or not. My question is, should I try making a pandora battery and magic memory stick in order to unbrick it or am I wasting my time and it definitely can't be fixed? Is there a way to tell before I go and spend all that time on something that wont work?

Thanks for your time,
G.

This sounds like a hardware defect, Pandora and MMS only work if the software got corrupted. Also buying a dropped PSP with a cracked screen for parts is pretty risky in my oppinion, the drive isn't that shock resist, they tend to break when only dropped like half a meter and if you have to replace screen and drive you are cheaper off buying a working PSP Fat off ebay.

Xbox 360: Slim untouched with a faked 320 GB harddrive for XBL, phat with LT 3.0, played Halo early, so going on live would be an instand ban, also with a faked 320 GB harddrive
PS3: Untouched 160 GB Slim, 60 GB Fat with latest Rogero and 160 GB internal harddrive.
PSVita: hardly ever play it
GameCube: Black with a Viper chip installed. With gameboy player. Trying to get a Wavebird controller.
