My psp 1000 umd drive was not reading, so I replaced the UMD drive. After checking and rechecking to make sure all my ribbons were in tact and connected properly I booted up and am still not reading umds. The laser lights now, but the issue is that the disk is not spinning, it twitches a little bit, but never fully spins. Is it possible that I had two umd drives both with bad motors? Anyone have any ideas?
if the motor is not spinning the disc there is a possibility that the laser is still no good. if the laser does not recognize the disc, it will not spin. try cleaning the laser with alcohol and a cue tip. try it again. if that does not work it could be the drive, or it could be the umd fuse. 1000 models have a fuse for the umd.
Hi there. Do not try to clean your head lens with alcohol. It is made of plastic, not of glass and only cleaning with special non-alcohol fluid is possible. Move your head as far as possible from the motor. Insert a disk and try to play it. Open the umd tray. If your head does not move to the motor there are possible solutions:
1. Ic driver of the motor is damaged (I do not remember the exat number of that BGA),.
2. Yes, it maybe a fuse. Check your motherboard with a multimeter.
3. Check a PSP LENS SWITCH. It is located near the umd motor. Sometimes it is broken.
4. It maybe a malfunction of a "new" drive.
5. Check that all the cables are connected properly and you did not damage them.
