Hi,

I am new to the PSP mod world, have a few modded consoles (PS1, PS2, Xbox) and would like to mod a PSP 2000. The PSP in enroute so I do not know what firmware it is but the model is a 2000. I see that there are multiple custom firmwares out there and I want to go with the best one for my needs... I basically wanna use the PSP to play my backups (dont want my disc's getting scratched) and watch movies.

So there is the DC8, the M33, there is something called the Xgen... To me it looks like the best one would be the DC8 as it has a version 5.5, I know that to play some of my newer games the firmware has to be at a certain level.

Any help or advice is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Welcome to Mod world of PSP. The best firmware for you would be 5.50 GEN, 5.50 GEN D-3 is the latest. DC8 is wonderful program by Dark-Alex which allows you to install 5.00 M33, but you will need a pandora battery for this. Xgen is a simple program that you run after you already have installed DC8. What this does is change the installation options to include 5.50 GEN.

If you are looking for a 2000 make sure you get one with a firmware of 5.03 or below. Later PSP2000 cannot be hacked and rely on an exploit Chickhen, this is only for firmware 5.03, a late PSP 2000 with 5.50 etc cannot currently play iso's from the memory card

Actually not quite true. This only applies for PSPs with a TA-088 v3 motherboard. PSPs with TA-088 v1 or TA-088 v2 can be hacked with a pandora battery and a magic memory stick. Also the ChickHen hack on TA-088 v3 is only temporarily, if you switch your PSP off or run out of battery power it reverts back to OFW.
Easiest way to tell:
If this field sais 8C or above, you have a TA-088 v3:

Xbox 360: Slim untouched with a faked 320 GB harddrive for XBL, phat with LT 3.0, played Halo early, so going on live would be an instand ban, also with a faked 320 GB harddrive
PS3: Untouched 160 GB Slim, 60 GB Fat with latest Rogero and 160 GB internal harddrive.
PSVita: hardly ever play it
GameCube: Black with a Viper chip installed. With gameboy player. Trying to get a Wavebird controller.

Hi,

Sorry for not getting back to this sooner, I realized this was in the wrong section and ended up getting help in the mod section in a diff thread.

So I made a pandora and a MS with 5.50 GEN D3. I was able to get 5.50 GEN D3 loaded after some trial and error. So far so good, iso and cso files load (except After Burner).

I do have another question, :) . I have a friend's 1001 with 3.52 M33-4 loaded. Can I get that to 5.50 GEN D3 without a pandora for the 1001?
