Hello,
I recently purchased a used PSP 2001 as a first time video gadget for my kid and currently I'm in the process of repairing it. I am not familiar with the previous owners hacking habits, but I do not believe that the system was modified. I can power up in recovery mode and when I let off the controls, the screen blacks out. I have successfully booted into recovery mode and navigated for a few minutes and then the screen blacked out. The audio continues to work and the backlight remains illuminated. Could this be power switch issue? Or a short elsewhere? Doesn't really seem like a software issue. Thanks for any help

the first things i would check is the volume bar and the screen connection. the later seems to be the most likely for how you describe the problem. oddly enough the screen and the backlight are 2 different connections. i have also seen the screen go black from the button bar. usually when that happens you can touch the button bar and it will come back on, but also usually the backlight does not stay on.

Thanks for the help. I read a great deal on psp repair and performed a tear-down and reassembly before posting. I did check the battery voltage after charging( 4.1 volts)and the screen seems to turn on better in the absence of the power cord. Of course, I'm not suggesting that I did not over look the problem- it's more likely that I'm looking in the wrong place. I can power up the screen by simultaneously holding the Rt trigger button and power switch; but not every time. Sometimes the screen will temporarily illuminate and then lose power with a touch of a button. Other times it will power up and allow me to navigate for a while and then power down. Seems like a short to me. I'll recheck the screen connections and the button bar connections once more. Again, thanks for the help
