Hello,
I recently acquired a PSP2001 which the previous owner described as 'no power'. After going through a lot of forums and web content, I have come to the conclusion that it can be due to a power fuse issue. I have disassembled the console and taken the motherboard out and have also located the TB fuse (which apparently should be bridged if there is no continuity), but how do I check if it has continuity? I have access to a multimeter, but do not know much about checking these.
Also, what else can be the problem (given that the power fuse is OK)? Should I replace the yellow power cable and power board as well?
Any help will be greatly appreciated. I would really like to have a working PSP!
P.S. The PSP should work when connected to the adapter, shouldn't it? (Without a battery).
Best regards.
The multimeter should have a sound (or diode test) With the meter connected across the fuse it should beep (test by putting the leads together it should beep - then test the fuse)
If its not the fuse then you are getting to the point of a new motherboard, unless there is an obvious problem elsewhere.
And yes the PSP will power and run with no battery (just on the power cord)
Hello,
Thank you for your reply. I think that there was a beep when I connected the two points.
I also tried another way; setting the multimeter to 20k Ohms and testing the TB fuse. The value I got was 0.00. Does this mean that the fuse is OK? ( i came to know of this technique through a PS2 repair video)
I will also replace the power board before I think about changing the motherboard.
Thank you again, I really appreciate it!
OK, while waiting for the new power circuit board to arrive, I thought I will do some research on PSP 2000 motherboards (In the event I have to replace mine!). My motherboard is a TA 085 (no V2 so I am guessing it is a V1?), can I swap a TA088 or anything else that came from a PSP2000 series?
Regards
Hello again,
I need to know how to run the PSP motherboard out of the back-housing because sometimes the heat shields may cause a short that will make the PSP not power on. This method would not enable me to connect the LCD and the UMD cables, are these necessary to switch the PSP on?
Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated.
LCD - although not essential it does help - if no LCD you can still here the sound or see the Green LED (an indication that it is at least showing signs of life)

Great, thank you for your help. I'll try it out today.
Regards
Update- I got an adapter (generic) for the PSP as I did not get one or a battery with the PSP, I hooked it up without the heat shield on top and it did not work (no lights at all). I then tried it with the heat shield and still nothing. I also got a replacement power board (with the switch) and that did not make the unit work either. What is wrong with my PSP? Is it not switching on because there is no battery? (it is supposed to switch on with a genuine charger, I thought since this is a generic charger it would not start the unit but charge the battery when it is inserted) Another annoyance is that the LCD does not sit flush with the metal bar on top (isn't it supposed to snap in place? Mine does not snap, but if I push it down gently, it goes down and comes up again. I can't even put the faceplate on properly!) I tried removing the screen and ensuring the other components are aligned properly, but still it does not sit properly.
Any help would be appreciated!
Thank you.
