I have a PSP 2001 which was previously either 4.01 M33 or 4.05 (cant remember) that captured a virus, so I had formatted the memstick, and tried to upload some .cso games that I downloaded, but the games were not detected by PSP. I read I have to upgrade, then downgrade to lower versions to get the games running. So I then went to upgrade it to 5.01 using ChickHens hack method through online instructions and was hoping to get it downgraded after that, but seems I am stuck. I also found out that versions 3.++ up (?) also could not boot using Power+R button, which I figured essential for one to get the .cso files up and running. I am not sure if this is inferior only to PSP 2000 or lower.
Now I`m at a loss since it says the Game is Corrupted, and now I`d like to revert back to the old 4.++ version. Or, if anyone could give me instructions/confirm if PSP 2001 can be downgraded.
Anyone?

Xbox 360: Slim untouched with a faked 320 GB harddrive for XBL, phat with LT 3.0, played Halo early, so going on live would be an instand ban, also with a faked 320 GB harddrive
PS3: Untouched 160 GB Slim, 60 GB Fat with latest Rogero and 160 GB internal harddrive.
PSVita: hardly ever play it
GameCube: Black with a Viper chip installed. With gameboy player. Trying to get a Wavebird controller.

Thanks for your reply, Eisherz. I tried installing the update following the instructions on the Readme file - but I`m lost on the 2nd instruction: - "2. Put 6.39 official update at ms0:/PSP/GAME/UPDATE/639.PBP ." - does this mean I have to rename the EBOOT.PBP file?
I tried renaming EBOOT.PBP into 639.PBP, the PSP would say the Corrupted Data (broken tile icon), but when I use EBOOT.PBP filename, I can see the icon but when I try to load it, it stops to say "The game could not be started (80020148).
Any thoughts why its behaving like this?

You do use 6.39 LCFW first, right? You can't install a custom firmware out of an original firmware without using a signed homebrew enabler.

Hi Eisherz,
Well, I tried installing LCFW first following the instructions in its Readme file; executing the LCFW module shows this message in black screen: `This program require FW6.39`
Could it be that my PSP is incompatible for homebrew CFWs? But personally, I dont think so, because previously I was able to upload games in some computer shops that offer such services - for a small fee, of course. Just a little background - my PSP is 2001-Lite Piano Black, had installed/deleted .cso/.iso games from memory card several times, (I do not know the Original version it came with, though), so I think this was either upgraded/downgraded before.
:/ I am at a total loss now. :/ Appreciate any inputs. Thanks!

If it states that it requires 6.39 then why don't you simply update to 6.39?

First of all, you have to update your firmware to 6.39, either go online with your PSP or create a folder called UPDATE in your GAME folder and put the eboot.pbp there. Don't rename anything.
Also I don't actually know which EBOOT.PBP you tried to rename. The one that came with the instructions? If yes, that's the wrong one.
I'd really recommend going online with your PSP and doing the update over the network, as you seem to be totally lost and don't know at all what you are doing. Then go to the official playstation website www.playstation.com and download the official update here:
http://en.playstation.com/psp/support/system-software/detail/item375502/Update-Features-(Ver-6-39)/
That's the eboot.pbp you need to rename to 639.pbp. But that's for later. As far as I read your answer #3 you were trying to do the update to custom firmware from 5.01 official firmware, meaning you skipped two steps.

Hi Eisherz,
Holy Guacamole, it works now. I missed updating the Original, you were right. I did not get what Original meant till you mentioned updating it from the PSP itself. I thought it was that other file that came together from the link you recommended, cause there were 2 files to be downloaded, hence I literally skipped a few steps. Thanks for smacking my butt and make me realize my error. lol.
Am downloading some games now and uploading like crazy. Now I can defo play Diner Dash again. =sob=
Im kidding. Im gonna play FFVII once I find the iso game. heh.
Appreciate you being patient with a obviously lost neophyte. (n00b be so common).
Cheers and thanks again! :) ;)
