Hello, I have a Sony PSP 2000 Piano Black. I am running OFW 5.51. I have never installed CFW on it (though I have tried). Everything was working fine until today. The start button stopped working.
At first, I thought it was a broken button, but now whenever I press the Home button, 1 of 2 things happens:
1.) If the XMB is showing, the PSP's screen goes blank and become unresponsive. However, the green power light is on.
2.) If I am in a game, the home screen shows up when home is pressed. "No" is selected and whenever I try to select "Yes", the screen goes blank just like in #1.
To bring it back up, I discovered that by putting the PSP on Hold and taking it off, the LCD comes on again.
One more thing I noticed:
Whenever I try to edit the nickname, the PSP doesnt let me and takes me right back to the XMB.
I really hope it is a broken button or something easy to fix. Any insight on this and how to fix it would be greatly appreciated.
Go to settings and use "Restore Default settings" or take out the battery for a whole day. It helped before back when someone i know failed to update firmware properly and it caused to corrupt/semi-brick his PSP. It worked fine again after doing so.
If all else fails, send it to sony. Depending on what cause the problem such as dropping it, you may need to pay or it might be free.
I tried resetting the default settings a few times, and nothing changed. Then, I left the battery out for a day and a half, but it didnt work.
After that, I decided to take off the faceplate to see if anything was amiss. The contact strip looked fine. No corrosion or anything. I did notice a wire part of a spring sticking out (could be shaken loose from dropping) and it was rubbing against some metal, so I pushed it back in place, hoping it was the problem. After I put everything back together, it was the same problem.
So I guess this means I'm going to go by a new PSP. If it wasn't the contact strip, could it have been the motherboard?
Open up the PSP (look at a guide and release the LCD screen - to get underneath it) underneath you will see the connecter for the contact strip, undo the connecter and remove the contact foil. Carefully turn on the PSP try and edit the nickname (if it allows you in then the contact strip is faulty and one of the buttons is pressing all the time). A replacement can be purchases for a few $. If it still is faulty then it is probably the motherboard.
You were right. I unclipped the LCD and removed the contact strip and turned it on. It worked fine. So I found a new contact strip for $5.69 (and free shipping!) on ebay. It should be here in a few days. Thanks a lot for your help. I really appreciate and I'll be sure to help out anyone who has the same problem as I do.
