PSP's XMB won't show-only wallpaper/theme

Hi everyone!
My PSP was left untouched for a while and the next time I tried to turn it on, it wouldn't turn on with the battery(not a sony battery, i bought another)....so I used the charger and turned it on. It booted up to the sony entertainment thing and then I could only see the waves....NO XMB!!! Was using 5.50 GEN-D3, could access recovery
Used Hellcat's recovery to get to 3.71 m33
Still won't show XMB. Read somewhere that formatting flash1 would work, tried but no change....I have a pandora battery, is it my only solution?
