ok, my silver slim stopped powering through the power socket. USB charging still works fine, but what i'm worried about is if the battery drains all the way, I won't be able to return it to usb mode.
so for some advice my questions are:
1. is this normally associated with just the power socket, or could it be something else?
2. does the psp phat power socket work with the slim?
I know the phat psp has what appears to be a little ground node that the slim does not, and i'm wondering if i could just cut that out. the reason I ask is because dealextreme has the psp 1000 power socket for 4 bucks and free shipping and the only few sites that carry the slim power socket want like 10 plus shipping.
They are not interchangeable as the fixing screw is different. It could also be the fuse protecting the PSP from overvoltage, the sockets are prone to go but usually by wiggling the power cable you can get it to charge (LED goes to orange)if it is completely gone then it may be down to the fuse - the only way to check is to open the PSP and check.
Are you sure that the problem is with the connector and not the power board? My PSP2001 does not power up as well, but the fuse is OK (At least I think so!). I have ordered a new power board and will replace it and post the results on my thread. (I sure hope I get it working!)
(My thread is "PSP2001 Troubleshooting help")
yeah let me know, i ordered up a replacement socket. It really stinks that like 2 days after buying my slim, I basically can't play with it away from my computer, from fear of it becoming nonchargeable. if this doesn't work i'm just going to buy an external charger from dealextreme
Just to clarify; the socket is the yellow unit you plug the charger to, isn't it?
Did you check the fuse of your PSP? I ordered my power board from DX as well, but apparently it takes ages to arrive! (I didn't know this before I ordered it)
Yeah the power socket is the yellow adapter. I haven't yet taken apart my psp yet to check due to lack of tiny screwdrivers and large amounts of snow in my area, which has made traveling a pain.
If it's not the power socket, my buddy has one that we're pretty sure he needs a new socket which I'll just sell it to him.
I got my power board, but my PSP still refuses to switch on! I am trying one last attempt by getting a new power socket and replacing the original. Does anyone know how to check the power socket with a multimeter? Please reply.
