I have searched all over for an answer to this and cant find a problem just like mine. I recently dug out my phat psp so I can play little big planet but the battery wont charge anymore. The thing is when i started it up for the first time in months i saw the orange LED flash for a second and never turned on again after that. Now my PSP doesnt see a battery in at all and it doesnt charge. Anyone have any idea what the problem is?

Does is work when it is powered by the Wall charger?
If so, your psp battery memory needs to be reset. You do this by taking your battery and flipping it over. Look at the 3 lots that it uses to connect the battery to the PSP, you should be able to see the small metal contacts inside. You need to short the 2 outside slots with a small wire or staple or something conductive. Make sure it touches both contacts for 3-5 seconds.
Pop it in and charge your battery.
If it's not that, it's your power fuse on the psp motherboard. That will have to be bridged.

The PSP does work when its plugged into the wall but I have tried 2 different batteries and neither charges so Im not sure if what you suggested about the memory will work but I will give it a shot.

OK this has got me stumped now. I took my PSP apart since sony wanted to charge me 90 bucks to fix it. and while i was putting back together i figured Id mess with the power and saw that when the power was plugged in just right the orange LED would come on then go off after literally 1 or 2 seconds so I have no idea what the issue is.

ok this is going to sound crazy, but let me tell you what happend to mine. i had a car charger that i used to charge up, then i had a slow couple of weeks playing. the next time i tried to charge in the house with ac adapter i had the same problem as you, i could wiggle the adapter around in get an orange light but only for a moment. it took a while to figure it out. but the little yellow tip from the car charger purchased at walmart had came off inside the slot. using a pin i dug it out took forever, now charges fine. look inside the jack and make sure there is not something stuck inside there, thats not supposed to be there.

Okay mine problem is that my TOOL battery won't even start charging(no orange light). I have used it only once about 1 and half years ago. I heard that it might be completely dead, and that I have to buy a new one. So is it true that there isn't anything that I could do?

you could try resetting the battery memory just as i described in one of the above posts. when you do it, you might even see a little blue static spark.

Perhaps the jack on the PSP where you plug the AC adapter into is loose - it'll need resaudered if that's the case.
