wassup guys. i've had my psp since launch. i think its called the psp1001. and i have fw 6.20. so anyways. been playing birth by sleep. im 12hrs in the the game. then allof a sudden the game freezes. so i turned off my psp to restart. but when i go to the game section at the xmb the umd wont load up. i can see the loading icon on the buttom right of the screen. i leave it on for few minutes and still the game wont load up. i've tried all my other umd games and still wont load. whats up with that?
also another weird thing is i cannot connect online with it. so i tried setting up my internet connection again. it detect my router and other peoples router but my router is highlighted with grayfont. and i cannot select it. and the security say "not supported". this had never happened to me before.
everything works fine though. music, video, ect. is there a way to fix this? cuz i called sony and i have to pay 80bucks to get it fixed and i dont want to play that much.
The UMD drive is definitely dead (or more precisely, the laser is). Get a new one, maybe the easiest way of getting it is ebay, or even more easy, buy another 1001 with a cracked screen and replace the screen with yours, then you don't have to take the entire PSP apart and it's maybe even cheaper that way.

You need a Pandora Battery and a Magic Memory Stick. For the Pandora Battery go to www.dealextreme.com (cheaper than making your own battery a Pandora one and buying a new one), for the MMS google MMS maker. Also there are some good tutorial videos on Youtube on how to hack a PSP using a MMS and a Pandora.
