This usually appears when you plug your Device into a dock like IHome or anything that plugs into you Ipod/Iphone.

Ihome are made for specific model of the Iphone/Ipod.

Like having a ihome device it might just me able to work for Iphone 3G, not a Iphone 3Gs. You be-able to control the music, volume, etc. But you won't be able to get/receive text message, calls, and etc

Hope this little info helps you out! Next time, give the info about the accessory you using. It will help us answer you question more easily.

There are too many families that shop at Wal-Mart just to buy new shit and then run to the restrooms to get rid of their old shit. Stinky... Stinky!!

Usually could mean that there is something stuck in the dock connector, like a grain of sand, hair, dust, or some type corrosion between two pins. It makes the iphone think theres something plugged in, but when it cant communicate with the accessory, it shows this message.

Try using compressed air, or putty that able to get into tight places.

Hope this is the reasoning why, or my other guess is that you have to take it to Apple from them to look at it
