My DVD/VCR unit has started to mess up. The DVD tray will open and then close (when trying to play a DVD) and then it will open and close or vice versa. If I keep pushing the open button and/or remote constantly it will magically stop and play a DVD. I downloaded the service manual and tried to initialize the DVD recorder & VCR, but following the instructions with the unit nothing happens.

I've taken it apart and cannot visually see anything wrong, so I don't know where to start on why the unit is doing this. Sometimes I'll hit it on the side and it will stay shut :-), but this doesn't always work.

Any advice?
