What is the best free software to convert videos (mpeg, flv, mp4 etc etc) to DVD/VOB format as well as burning them onto a DVD to be able to play them on a DVD player?

I used to use the free Nero demo that i found on here but after a month some functions stop working. When they do i have to reinstall the whole thing and the only way i have found how to do that is to reformat my PC.

Unless any of you know of how to reinstall nero demo without having to reformat my PC as that would be great. If not, than can u advise me as to what to use? Hopefully something easy and fast so that it doesn't take much time.

Thanks for allowing me into your community and thank you for any and all help any of you can provide.

AVStoDVD or DVD Flick.

AVStoDVD is updated regularly;DVD Flick is abandonware, but pretty good.
They both include ImgBurn for burning the disk.

Any idea how long it would take to convert and burn a movie using AVStoDVD? Nero demo took about 30 minutes to do it. DVD Flick took about 2 hours. I have never tried AVStoDVD yet.

Any software that can burn a movie (mp4, mpeg, avi etc etc) without having to convert it? Or does nero convert it than burn it as well? If so, is their a software that does it as fast as nero?

A 2.5 hour running time BluRay rip on AVStoDVD takes two hours.
Recall it's using 2-passes with arguably the best encoder (HcEnc) to fit it onto a disk that nominally hold two hours running time of MPEG video.

Everything has to be encoded - one exception is DVD compliant video (e.g. 720x480 or 720x576 mpeg2 video)
Both the softwares mentioned have options to do this - I don't know if Nero does too.
In this particular case the DVD compliant video is demuxed into it's constituent streams and simply re-authored to DVD movie format/layout.
