Hello everybody, i got some strange issues with getting a hdmi image on my panny plasma...
When i hook the ps3 to the tv with an hdmi cable i get no image.

In my experience the console auto-detects whatever kind of cable you use but not this time.
I swapped with different cables but that made no difference so i think i can rule out a cable problem.

NExt thing i did was holding the reset button for 5-6 seconds when turning it on so the system goes back to default screen settings but it gave me nothing but a black screen...
But when i connect an original SCART cable that came with the ps3 i got my image back again. Strange isn't it?

When the scart is connected and i connect the hdmi cable i get a message from the ps3 that says '' A HDMI device is detected , would you like to swith to that? '' YES of course want that...! But when i do that the screen goes black for a while and i still get no image. Very weird because the it seems the console recognize the cable+tv...

I checked the panasonic(g20) hdmi inputs with a camera and that worked perfect so i think i can rule out the tv.
I had this weird issue before but when it occured in the past i solved it pretty quickly by re-connecting the hdmi cable and do the default reset.
You should think it could be a hardware problem , only the fact that it gives a message that it detects an hdmi device an asks if i want to switch to that makes it a litte bit strange right?

All this is getting pretty annoying so if anyone could help me...It would be great!
I'm from the Netherlands so excuse me if i made some mistakes in the written above ;)

Does anyone have a solution for this problem?
The ps3 works fine and also detects that there is an HDMI device connected but when i say yes tot switch, all it gives me is a black screen.
I've read something that this can be related to HDCP problems ''handshake between tv and ps3''

Some feedback would be great because i don't now where to look anymore!

The auto detect isnt so good, only really works when you first turn on the ps3, after it has configured to that TV it doesnt want to reconfigure to another.

Unplug the scart cable from the ps3, only have the hdmi cable connected. Reset the ps3 - press and hold power button until it beeps once, keep it held until it beeps twice, let it shutdown then turn on the ps3 again.

I first had mine on scart as well and had the same problem when I bought a hdmi cable.

I think i already did that but i'm gonna give it a try Bigo93.
But your right about the auto detection , when i in the past moved the console
from one tv too another (HD or non-HD) it always gave that black screen.
Only difference was then i'd only have to use the reset method you've mentioned above and everything was o.k again. When the console asks if i want to switch to hdmi and i say yes i can just see a flickering on the hdmi channel and a short brief of 576i in the corner of the screen for about 1 sec.
I've tried a lot of things by now, tried 3 different hdmi cables, reset to factory settings, full format of the harddrive, plugged both AV+HDMI cable in, plugged them in seperatly, and yesterday i even did a full reset of the 6 months old panasonic plasma. By now i almost think it's a hardware failure...

But thanks for respone Bigo ;)

Remember only have the hdmi cable plugged in, nothing else, then reset the ps3, and then turn it on, have tv on hdmi channel and then see if it shows up. It auto detect does not work then you may want to try manual settings, I know my TV only supports 1080i yet the ps3 claims it can support 1080p. I've not had any problems so not done anything. If your is doing the same you may want to do manual and not select 1080p

My TV supports 1080p but i'm going to test it with all the options on and off.
Are there any games that you can play in 1080p? when my hdmi still worked the only options were 720p or 1080i if you like.
Did you ever heard of a broken hdmi port on the ps3 or is that a rare thing?

I know exactly what you're talking about. I've got a 60 gig ps3 that's been doing the same damn thing, and it's annoying.

Everybody kept telling me that the hdmi port is fried, but that didn't make sense because it would periodically tell me that it was detecting an HDMI cord attached. If you figure something out, please let me know.

Hey, look at me. I'm typing with no hands.

Have you bought a cheap HDMI cable? Even the cables have version numbers, not a lot of people know that.

Latest HDMI cable version is 1.4a For the ps3 you really want a 1.3+ so a 1.3a 1.3b 1.3c or 1.4 1.4a cable will do.

A 1.0 1.1 1.2 cable are a no go for full HD!

The ones under HDMI 1.3 can only support stream of 4.9gb/s whilst the 1.3> cables can handle 10.2gb/s

Well most hdmi calbes are cheap these days, if you are in teh UK try ebuyer:

I've tried everything that you guys mentioned above.
I've also tried 4 different (1.3)hdmi cables and all with no results. The last one was a cable from sony.
The only thing that i can think of right now, is that it is a hardware problem in the hdmi circuit. Maybe the connector itself but the sytems seems to notice the cable+tv when you connect it...
I think i'm going to buy a composite cable to see if the ps3 still can transmit a 720p or 1080i signal.
I'm from from the Netherlands by the way and not from the UK.
Thanks you guys for the responses ;)

Guys, i am having the identical problem with a Panasonic Plasma. Screen flickers and then turns black. The machine auto detects and asks if I want to switch to HDMI.....i say yes, but nothing comes through.

It's reaaly frustrating.
I'm now using component.

I have a sony monitor upstairs that has a DVI connection, using an adapter te hdmi works perfectly on it and gives me 1080p,,,,,,,,,so guess this means the HDMI port on the ps3 is working??

answers on a post card please..............
