Hey guys I recently bought an Ethernet cable because my nat type is strict on my ps3 but the later I found out it will only work if I have a modem (which I don't have) or a router (which makes it strict) I was wondering if there was somewhere else I could put the Ethernet cable.
You don't have a router or a cable modem...how are you even online? If you are just leaching from a neighbor's WiFi connection, then you would have to use a PC as a proxy, or a router as a proxy.
The change needs to be made to the settings on your router.
Go into the configuration screen from your PC but typing the IP address of the router into your web browser, this will be the same as the default gateway's IP address. Once you have logged onto the router's configuration webpage, you need to find NAT and uPNP, turn them both on, save, and restart the router (obviously make sure it's finished saving before you restart though).
Hopefully this will fix the problem. If you dont have the option of NAT and/or uPNP then you may just need a newer router, or need to upgrade the firmware in it.

Anyway the way to tell the difference is look at both sides of the cable, side by side, if both connectors have the same colours in the same order then it's straight thru, if the colours are in a different order on each connector then its a crossover ...
You should be able to change the NAT type in the configuration though without changing wired to wireless or vice-versa.
That said, if you have the option of gaming on wired, then use it, wireless should be a last resort, for laptops or phones, it has much more overheads than wired and therefore more lag for something that needs instant responsiveness like gaming online.
