I recently bought a Western Digital 420 GB NTFS external HDD. I am looking to change the partition from NTFS to FAT32 so that it is compatible with my PS3. Which program is the most promise-able in that it will not crash on me like the last 20 programs that I have used?

I prefer linux when working with partitions but for windows I say easeus partition master is the best. The home edition is free.

Quick question for you gamers out there. My lads got PS3 for xmas but now want to play on line with their mates. As I am a very late arrival to the gaming community I dont fully understand the ways and means of going about this task. The PS3 is looking for a code to be installed to complete access to the web so the boys can play on line. Is this code etched on the back of the router or do I have to get it from another source ?
Patience is needed as I would not be the most accomplished computer user.

A code? To connect to the psn all you need to go is register an account and then sign in.
Unless you mean when you are in game and you click online multiplayer option and t then asks for a code? If that is that case then the code will be inside the game's case either in the manual or the back of the manual, on a separate slip of paper or a sticker in the inside of the case.
But last time I checked I was not asked for a code, only signing the psn agreement.

The code its looking for is likely the passphrase for your router. If you are connecting the ps3 with wifi it would have to be your routers wep or wpa (whichever you use) passphrase.

Ah right the WPA password.
Some ISPs give the password to the wifi router on the base of the router, it'll say somethign like WPA/WEP/Wifi Password/Passphrase
Though sometimes they do not and it that's the case then the security would not be set to ask for a password. But if it is on and there is no password on the base of the router then you will have to log onto the router and check the settings or change the settings.
And that will all depend on the make and model of your router.
Pierrel88 ,On a side note, if your PS3 hacked? If so then you wont be able to go online.

How did this change over from a request for help on formatting a hard drive to a wireless discussion?
r0wney, right now, if I were you, I wouldn't mess with upgrading your hard drive until Sony releases a firmware version that specifically addresses the hereto unacknowledged hard drive upgradebug.
I almost bricked mine trying to upgrade my drive with firmware 3.56 and thousands did brick theirs.
If you want to go forward you don't need to format the new drive as Sony has their own formatting.
First, make sure you have the latest Sony firmware installed.
Take out you old drive and DO NOT OVERWRITE, REFORMAT, WIPE, OR LOSE IT.
Make 100% sure you were successful upgrading the drive first as you will need the old one if you aren't.
Install the new drive and in the xmb go to Settings then System setting then Format Utility and format your new drive.
Now you need to make another small purchase before you proceed. Hit Amazon and find a usb to ide/sata/peta kit with power supply. I bought two for cloning at 10 buck apiece (looking to see if I still have the link) found it..... only around 5 bucks.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002OV1VJW/ref=ox_ya_os_product
Put you original hard drive back in, make sure all users trophy information is synced up, plug up your new hard drive to the usb and it should register as a mass storage device.
Run the backup utility and send everything to your new drive and then replace the drive.

Dude.... his question was the first one answered. If you read his post you would know there is no chance to brick his system what so ever as he is wanting to add an external hdd. What unacknowaledged hdd issue. I seem to remember sony acknowledged it and released 3.56.1 that fixed that issue and have went on to 3.60 now.

Pierrel88, should start your own thread as hijacking another member's thread is a forum rule no no.

Dude.
There isn't one word or concept in the original post to assume that r0wney wanted to add an external hard drive.... so step off... I'm trying to help this person.
Isn't that why we are here?

Also, whompas, Sony released versions 3.56 v2 and 3.6 without addressing the hard dive upgrade issue.
So, get your facts straight before you post erroneous information and possibly cause people more problems than they already have.

The words Bought external hdd and wants to change to fat32 from ntfs seems to suggest the op has done there research. Knows what they have and what they want to do with it. A program to do it that will not crash was what was asked for. No erroneous information there nor in my answer.
For the second poster. Instead of telling them to make a new post, I simply answered and let a mod do there job from there.
For your post it was not erroneous either at the time you did that, but is not needed now. And could cause confusion and several none needed problems.
Edit... Be all that as it may. I am done with this post unless the op needs more info.

To all subscribers to this thread !
May I consider myself reprimanded as to looking for advice on this particular thread. The code my lads are looking for are a WPA or a WEP key to access the on line gaming with their buddies. As I do not understand any aspect of the "gaming" world and because my lads got their PS3 from Santa (brand new) I do not understand the "on screen" prompts from the PS3. As I say the console is looking for the code whatever listed above. Is this code in excess of 10 didgits including letters ? Where do I find this code. Is it etched on the broadband router ? Please enlighten me towards the path of righteousness as my kids are doing my head in !
Again pardon my lack of understanding and thanks for all the advice.

Pierrel88, make a thread about your problem so we don't run into issues like what just happened. post in that thread what your router is as in wireless or just wired & is the ps3 wired to the router or trying to connect wireless to that router.
txsfrbl, next time edit your previous post instead of posting 1 post after the other as per forum rules. http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/2487

Whompas, sorry.
The word External does kind of make your point.
Still only trying to assure people don't brick their ps3.
