No. Either get an old 20 Gig model or an old 60 Gig model (the first two phat models released), any later model isn't able to play PS2 games.

Xbox 360: Slim untouched with a faked 320 GB harddrive for XBL, phat with LT 3.0, played Halo early, so going on live would be an instand ban, also with a faked 320 GB harddrive
PS3: Untouched 160 GB Slim, 60 GB Fat with latest Rogero and 160 GB internal harddrive.
PSVita: hardly ever play it
GameCube: Black with a Viper chip installed. With gameboy player. Trying to get a Wavebird controller.

Eisherz is right, newer ps3's don't support ps2 games anymore. I've heard they still play ps1 games, but I don't have any with me to test this.

First generation ps3's came with both ps3 hardware, and ps2 hardware installed in them (sony claims thats why they were so pricey) so they fully supported ps2 games, but to have the price drop they removed the ps2 hardware from their newer generation models so people would buy them more. You can still find first generation ps3's at game trading places, but they still command a $400 price tag (even used/refurbished).

I've seen a few ps2 titles available for purchase on the PSN, but its a very limited selection... You're better off just using a ps2.

Not true. The first generation models (CECHA... and CECHB...) have a hardware PS2 compatibility. However, the later released European 60 GB version (CECHC...) and the NTSC 80 GB version (CECHE..., don't ask me if it's the US or the Japan version) have only a software emulator for PS2 titles.

Right, but they can only play ps2 games that are available on the playstation network, correct? I guess what I should have said is newer ps3's don't have FULL ps2 support, and if its anything like xbox, there will only be a select amount of titles that will be converted to support the software emulation.

Not really, I have already played PS2 games that aren't available in the PSN, I play them as originals from the disc on a CECHC model.

But this will only work if you're still on 3.55 or below.
