Alright where to start, Called sony $315, So nah. Ok im having the disc wont read problem but diffrent to everything i can find. disc accepts, clock moves lags on eject. Attepts to load disc but fails hard, No error. Makes a low pitch screch sound. Not a grind or anything. Mot overly loud. Everything else works fine im writing this message off exact ps3 lol. Was playing black ops didnt freeze or anything. Wanted to play Fallout NV so quit via Controller menu. Took disc out, put new disc in, And fail. Didnt read. like was a 10 second gap between perfect running to complete disc fail. Doesnt run anything. Ps1 dvd, But what are the chances of twin laser fail. Warranty gone but never taken apart (yet) Please help
As your warrenty is finished anyway there's no reason not to get it fixed professionally. There's also no real need to to send it back to Sony.
When my BlueRay drive went on the fritz I searched on Google for "PS3 repairs (my home town)" and got a list of repairers. Cost around half of what Sony would have charged. I recall it cost me around £120. The majority of this (£60- £65) was for the new drive, then about £30-£35 was for labour. The remainder was f*!ki@g VAT! Even so, it was a lot less than what Sony wanted.
i found the problem, i took my ps3 apart, open the blu ray drive and there was a adhesive strip in it, i dont know how it got there but works fine now. No wonder my problem differed from everything i could find, thnx anyway

That's absolutely bizarre!
I suppose it must have got stuck on the reverse of a disc that somebody inserted one day. Saved yourself a lot of money there I reckon. Really lucky.
