i have been notice that my ps3 controller is dropping the charge once a week, i have to charge it once a week, i usually charge it maybe twice a month, is the battery dying?

now i noticed again when i put my ps3 controller to charge, on my pc and gets full charge (red lights stops blinking)
i disconnect it from the tiny plug and put it again, and it charges again (red lights blinking), is it normal, is it overcharging?
please help
thanks.

If you have the <Turn off controller> setting to <Never> it will drain the controller if you do not turn off the system. (or manually turn off controller)

The problem is probably your battery.

I have a DualShock3 that will work for 30 sec by itself then shut down.
When hooked to a cable it works fine ~forever.

Rechargeable batteries do die, some faster than others.

Tips to keep them going for as long as possible are:
Fully deplete the battery before doing a full charge.
Dont overcharge them. Once charged stop charging them
Dont leave a battery idle for too long, charge them fully at least once a month ir something, letting them remain dead for months will reduce the time they can keep their charge.

usb ports should provide the same amount of current no matter which device they are on, so charging on pc is fine.
