just wondering if my PS3 crashed or something, would there be some way to use my backed up saves? because usually when I've copied before, the save was locked and I could play but I couldn't change anything
are the saves locked to the machine, the user acount or the PSN? can I just create a user acount on another PS3 with the same details as my old one? or would it not be possible to use my old saves
thanks in advance for any answers

Do you have Playstation Plus? If you do you can save your sava-data in cloud storage but if not then your save-data stays in your PS3. If you get a new PS3 all you have to do is enter your online accounts email and password and boom your old account it there, you can't create a new account with the same email address.(Somebody please correct me if I'm wrong! I speak what I know)

No I think you misunderstood me or I confused you, only if you have Playstation Plus then you can transfer you save datas from machine to machine

Actually you got me thinking on something, maybe it's possible to copy your save datas onto a flash drive or hard drive. I will test it out tomorrow and report back

it is, but the problem is sometimes depending on the game the data is locked to either the PSN account or the console, not sure which

This is actually not possible. From what I gather you can only transfer your game saves via cloud storage through PS3. With the 360, you could save your game data onto a flash drive if you had a Gold account, but from what I could tell with the PS3, even with Playstation Plus, this still isn't an available option. It seemed you could only transfer between machines. Unless I'm just not looking in the right place.

actually it is possible to copy game saves to a flash drive, just plug it in, go to save data utility, hit triangle on the save and press copy
the only problem with doing this is, if its someone else using your save then most games they won't be able to edit the save
they can play with it, but they can't change anything
