Hi all,
I've been given this ps3 which has a solid red light. Its not blinking or ylod but it wont power on. Neither the eject button or power button do anything. When I switch on by the power switch behind it does seem to take longer then usual for the solid red light to come on. Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks

Do you have a controller? Try switching it on with a controller connected via USB.
Xbox 360: Slim untouched with a faked 320 GB harddrive for XBL, phat with LT 3.0, played Halo early, so going on live would be an instand ban, also with a faked 320 GB harddrive
PS3: Untouched 160 GB Slim, 60 GB Fat with latest Rogero and 160 GB internal harddrive.
PSVita: hardly ever play it
GameCube: Black with a Viper chip installed. With gameboy player. Trying to get a Wavebird controller.

Hi, thanks for the reply. Unfortunately I cannot as my controller is not synced with this ps3. I've tried attaching it with the usb cable but nothing.

Might be the PSU going bad.

I've tried 3 different psu and also tried the actual psu inside in another ps3 and it works fine. Perhaps the motherboard? Cheers

A motherboard error would "normally" cause a YLOD, and not a steady red light. Has the PS3 been opened before and how much has it been tempered with? You could do a reflow to check if that fixes your problem, but I wouldn't count on it.
By the way, what happens when you try inserting a disc into the PS3? That's another method to start it.

I cant insert a disc as the blu-ray drive isnt connected and there is no laser and to be honest I'm not sure if this is the correct drive as he gave me loads of other parts including some ylod ps3's with loads of drives. Just to you let you know, when switched on it takes about 5 seconds for the standby light to actually appear, strange?

I seriously wouldn't even bother trying to get this to run, you put in loads of efford and time to get it to run just to realize in the end that you can't use it anyways because you don't have the correct drive.

Yeah I know, just quite frustrating because one of these bloody drives is the correct one. Anyway you right, in the bin it goes :(
