hahahahaha Well we all knew it was coming, first PSN+ and then changing the TOS to add that they may charge for new accounts created. Now wasnt free online play a feature of the PS3?
Now since only like 2% of users used otheros, Sony could get away with removing an advertised feature, but when it comes to psn, I think at least 50% will get pissed off. This could bring the downfall of the PS3.
Sure a some loyal fans will gladly pay the fee for more secure psn, but there are those who may say that they bought the PS3 on the basis that it's online play was free.
I for one would love to see Sony do this, since it affects 99% of PS3 owners there is no way they can sweep the complaints under the rug.

Yep thats me LOL. I bought a ps3 this winter for the sole purpose of the free online game play. If they decide to charge for the service I will just spend the money on my live account. And sell the ps3. None of my friends have a ps3 anyway they all have xbox and I kinda miss playing with them. But personally I dont think sony will do it, but guess we will see.

Xbox 360: Slim untouched with a faked 320 GB harddrive for XBL, phat with LT 3.0, played Halo early, so going on live would be an instand ban, also with a faked 320 GB harddrive
PS3: Untouched 160 GB Slim, 60 GB Fat with latest Rogero and 160 GB internal harddrive.
PSVita: hardly ever play it
GameCube: Black with a Viper chip installed. With gameboy player. Trying to get a Wavebird controller.

Easy, pay for a more secure service, the still loyal Sony fanboys will jump at it.
Also it will be "optional", which in Sony's dictionary mean mandatory if you want to play online.
They'll say the new servers have a higher cost and can no longer support a free psn.
Either way it'll be paid xbl or paid psn. And a lot of people cannot afford to sell their ps3 to buy a new xbox. So really Sony are again holding our systems hostage - "pay for psn or else no online!"

A used Xbox 360 is way cheaper than a used PS3 (about half the price).

I own a PS3. The deciding factor in my console purchase was the free online play. I have to say after this psn hack/shutdown, if they decide to try to make me pay you can see the youtube video of me destroying my ps3 and hooking up my new Xbox.

The ToS they released on 1st April has a couple of ammendments which states that they may in future charge for the creation of new accounts:
http://www.ps3news.com/PlayStation-3-PSN-News/sony-network-entertainment-america-snea-new-tos-on-april-1/
15. GENERAL LEGAL
SNEA, at its sole discretion, may modify the terms of this Agreement at any time, including imposing a fee for creating PSN accounts
this was before the hacking, so with the expense of building new servers and law suits, and considering there will be a new firmware update in teh next week in order to use the new psn, I wouldnt put it past them changing it to include paid psn, to cover the cost of "more secure" accounts.
