Last weekend, Sony Computer Entertainment announced that we will provide complimentary enrollment in an identity theft protection program. Here are the details of this program for PlayStation Network and Qriocity account holders in the United States only. We are working to make similar programs available in other countries/territories where applicable. Information will be posted on local websites/blogs when available.

Sony Computer Entertainment and Sony Network Entertainment International have made arrangements with Debix, Inc., one of the industry?s most reputable identity protection firms, to offer AllClear ID Plus at no cost to PlayStation Network and Qriocity account holders for 12 months from the time an account holder registers for the program.

Please note that we will start sending out activation emails for this program over the next few days, and you will have until June 18th to sign-up and redeem your code. You will need to sign up directly through AllClearID, not on Sony?s websites, and details, including step-by-step instructions for the program, will be emailed to United States PSN and Qriocity Account holders soon.

The details of the program include, but are not limited to:

* Cyber monitoring and surveillance of the Internet to detect exposure of an AllClear ID Plus customer?s personal information, including monitoring of criminal web sites and data recovered by law enforcement. If his/her personal information is found, the customer will be alerted by phone and/or email and will be provided advice and support regarding protective steps to take. The customer will also receive monthly identity status reports. Debix works with an alliance of cyber-crime experts from the government, academia and industry to provide these services.

* Priority access to licensed private investigators and identity restoration specialists. If an AllClear ID Plus customer receives an alert, or otherwise suspects that he/she may be the victim of identity theft, the customer can speak directly, on a priority basis, with an on-staff licensed private investigator, who will conduct a comprehensive inquiry. In the case of an identity theft, the customer can work with an identity restoration specialist to contact creditors and others, and take necessary steps to restore the customer?s identity.

* A $1 million identity theft insurance policy per user to provide additional protection in the event that an AllClear ID Plus customer becomes a victim of identity theft. This insurance would provide financial relief of up to $1 million for covered identity restoration costs, legal defense expenses, and lost wages that occur within 12 months after the stolen identity event.

More information will be available on the enrollment page, a link which will be included in the email you will receive.

We continue to work around the clock to have some PlayStation Network services and Qriocity services restored, and will be providing you specific details shortly.

Thank you.

Good news for American PSN members.

"You deserve what you get" is a bit harsh since when were filling out these online forms, we automatically give full confidence to the company were giving our information to that they will guard our personal info extremely well.
What happened to Sony can easily happen to XBox Live, facebook, banks etc.Its awful that myself and a lot of people have to learn a lesson in "due diligence" by having my personal info stolen from sony's servers.I will definitely be more cautious and more reserve when providing any of my personal information to a company.

No worries.I never had a CC on file on PSN since it wasn't letting me update it when I tried to. I've been using PSN cards for quite some time now. I still called MC to get a new card number issued to me just to be on the safe side. I don't think these thieves can do much with just my name, address, and email address. I never provided my SIN at any given time and to apply for credit you need that. I hope I'm right because I just rebuilt my credit score.
Word now is theres a third strike planned by these same hackers. The months ahead will be interesting.

And now it appears that Sony may have been using outdated and unpatched software for their "security" even though they were warned about it several times.

Sign the petition, sony have "stolen" OUR consoles from us we should demand they pay the costs of a replacement

Those who feel this wont do a thing, well neither will keeping quite about it, the more signatures it has the more it stands out.

Sony is really doing alot more than what they need to in my opinion. As far as I know there is still no evidence that any CC info actually got out. I didn't have a CC on my file anyways so that did not really affect me. My name, birth date, and address is just like public info these days. I say good job Sony for taking care of your customers they way you are.

That petition is a joke. Seriously!
Here is a response from Howard Stringer on the amount of time it took Sony to respond.

I know some believe we should have notified our customers earlier than we did. It?s a fair question. As soon as we discovered the potential scope of the intrusion, we shut down the PlayStation Network and Qriocity services and hired some of the best technical experts in the field to determine what happened. I wish we could have gotten the answers we needed sooner, but forensic analysis is a complex, time-consuming process. Hackers, after all, do their best to cover their tracks, and it took some time for our experts to find those tracks and begin to identify what personal information had ? or had not ? been taken.
As a result of what we discovered we notified you of the breach. Our investigation is ongoing, and we are upgrading our security so that if attacks like this happen again, our defenses will be even stronger.

Whoa there fella! Your not allowed to post rational comments here :/ Thats the kind of thinking that may get some users here to use the F-word (fanboy) on you :P
I agree but despite the efforts Sony are making to make things right, haters are going to hate. If a $1 million identity theft insurance policy at no cost to US PSN members is still not a good form of compensation then no form of compensation will be.
I agree that the petition is a joke specially since the roll out of the Free ?AllClear ID Plus? Identity Theft Protection.

What bothers me is that it's only free the first 12 months after registration. What happens after the first year is on a totally different page.
I agree that this petition is a joke (like most of bigo93's posts lately).

Xbox 360: Slim untouched with a faked 320 GB harddrive for XBL, phat with LT 3.0, played Halo early, so going on live would be an instand ban, also with a faked 320 GB harddrive
PS3: Untouched 160 GB Slim, 60 GB Fat with latest Rogero and 160 GB internal harddrive.
PSVita: hardly ever play it
GameCube: Black with a Viper chip installed. With gameboy player. Trying to get a Wavebird controller.

I can see why its only for 12 months. If someone were planning to steal yours or my identity. I don't think they'll wait a full year to do it.
After a year and you do fall victim to identity theft, you'd be hard pressed to prove if it was due to the PSN hack. After all, in a span of a year how many time does an average person provide his or her info to a third party company. I bet that a lot of people here still just throw out their bank statement's and CC statements without even thinking about the possibility of someone rummaging through your trash to collect personal info. At least US PSN members already know what they will be getting as far as compensation. I haven't heard of anything in regards to what Sony will be rolling out for us Canadians affected by the hack.

I really shouldn't write at half past one in the morning. I understood that it was only for future hacking events.
