Google sued over 'Buzz'

article published on 22 February, 2010

Google has been sued today by Harvard Law School student Eva S. Hibnick, who has started a class-action lawsuit against the search giant "on behalf of Gmail users," claiming that the new Buzz social networking service is a breach of user privacy. Buzz is a voluntary add on to Gmail, but all users are automatically enrolled and have to opt-out if they don't want to use it. "The social ... [ read the full article ]

These guys went to Harvard? This case'll crash and burn then. If they went to a university in the UK however... I'm not xenophobic or anything, there are a lot of thIngs the Us has over the uk, but let's face it, the US education system is of a low rank in the western world.

Thanks, I didn't realize you had to turn it off. I rarely sign into my gmail via the web. I hate that google forces this crap on people. Want to download a plug in like flash...install Google Toolbar and Google Desktop unless you happen to read the screen and uncheck the box. It gets rather annoying and at work I had to devise a way to use our Antivirus software to treat things like google toolbar and google desktop amongst other crap like that as viruses to prevent them from being installed on computers on my network. They are more trouble than they are worth,

Seriously, how is that even related? And in response, Harvard Law is one of the most respected institutions in the world.

Okay so i might be a bozo, but sure seems when Google tried pushing Buzz on me I opted out. I don't seem to have buzz at all As far as I see, while I'll admit i runs with "NoScript" (one of the best plug-ins for FireFox I've seen) installed have disallowed Google running scripts for other reasons.

While i have feeling these students might have trouble winning the case. Main reason if you communicate over a "PUBLIC" medium, how or why can you expect privacy? Opting into Google and using it... hmmmm, better yet, how about giving the Google users their money back for using Google.

How about the law students going after the real annoying jerks, the ones that send and waste millions of tons of paper in the form of advertising and junk mail to our homes. I might think when I open a bank account, i should have some privacy not have my information sold for profit by a bank to some mailing list, or other companies that practice the same thing... Law students if you listening, go after these companies.

I'm so glad I don't use any google services.. no gmail.. nothing like that.

google really got burned fingers over this one. I don't think taking them to court will serve any purpose, just more nonsense clogging up the courts who should be dealing with REAL criminals like time-warner and rumsfeld and dubyah.
