Intel to upgrade from Windows XP to 7

Intel, which infamously snubbed Vista for its own systems, has announced today they will be upgrading from Windows XP to Windows 7, seemingly closing the chapter on the Vista OS.

This is the biggest endorsement for Windows 7 I have heard yet. I wonder how much will be spent on all the licenses!

Since Intel is a huge company this is great news for Microsoft.
It's also good for web developers as it will get rid of tons of IE6 clients on the web. Hopefully other big (and small!) companies will make the jump to Windows 7 as to further shrink the presence of IE6 on the web.

I hate the whole "Vista SP#" reference to Windows 7. While Windows 7 is very similar to Vista it is NOT just a service pack in disguise.
If Microsoft could simply install a "Service Pack" to Vista in order to make it run like Windows 7 I think they would have done so with Service Pack 2 (or 3) in order to "Save face" and make Vista a lot better than the piece of junk that it is.

Hardly, Windows ME was just windows 98se with some features removed and with lots of bugs added (and it came out after windows 2000). Windows 7 is what windows Vista should have been...not just in terms of stability and performance, but also in terms of features. Even little things like the calculator and wordpad have been tweeked and upgraded.

You're right but I guess that would have cost A LOT of money; though if MS knew Vista sucked bad enough to even do that then I guess it's only right they offer upgrades to everyone.
Luckily for me I'm one of those people who just got Vista in the last two months.

I paid the $50 for the upgrade version so I could have both 32 and 64 bit and a physical disc. No complaints, can't wait to upgrade on the 22nd.

im on the 30 day trial of windows 7. i had used xp pro before and couldnt stand vista, but im pleasantly surprised with this os. first os from microsoft that should get people excited to upgrade

People who are willing to spend up to $220(!!!) for Windows 7 ("Ultimate") UPGRADE on October 22 are absolutely and certifiably insane. Microsoft has proven over and over to have an unmatched talent for producing dreadful software which requires its users to spend hours and hours of updating, fixing, correcting, service-packing and dealing with inscrutable pop-up windows, error messages and various catastrophic blue/black screens. It is of course possible that this has changed. I hope so. I'll wait at least one year before possibly considering Windows 7 after dealing with the lesser debacle of Me, XP and the unforgivable mess of Vista.
