It's one of those films that's worth the visit to the cinema.
Why wait for the BD/DVD release.
Stunning CGI, it'll be a reference BD disc for sure.

You could always just watch the dvd screener that's been out for a month or so.
The first release was awful but it was cleaned up and is very watchable.

Wow, that was fast in terms of when they are getting this out to DVD. James really wants that money, doesn't he?

Is the quote saying that both the Blu-ray and the DVD are going to be barebones in April ?

It's kind of interesting that they'll look to release it in April and again in 3D in November. This past week (12-15th) it was still #4 at the box office and is probably nipping at the heels of Return of the Jedi (#14 overall) on the All-Time list.

If the April 22nd date stays firm I'm guessing Avatar may become #10 on the All-Time list as long as it doesn't fall on it's face in the next few weeks.

If by barebones you mean non-3D (and not overly stuffed with extras) then yes, it sounds like that to me.

Until dedicated 3D TVs are common place, I can't see the option for 3D at home being worth looking at.
The new Sony 3D range looks good, uses the proper polarised lense technology instead of twin colour filters.
First run on DVD/BD will be theatrical release, with directors cut set for later in the year.
I seen it twice in 3D, don?t have an Imax near me or would have done that instead.

Well I'm certainly not going to waste money t buy it now, only to have to buy a bigger better version later on. I'll just wait until an "extended director's cut" comes out on Blu-Ray preferably with both 2D and 3D versions included. It'll probably even be a decent price by then.

The other thing that I'm wondering is if the extended directors ver is only going to be released as a 3D ver. Cause with this movie I think it's worth getting and watching the extras and having the directors ver as well. So I'm not going to double dip on this thats for sure. I will wait.
