Likely scam: Sealed NES 'Stadium Events' sells for $800,000

article published on 2 March, 2010

Over the past few weeks, the rare NES game Stadium Events has grown some notoriety, selling in eBay auctions for $13,000 (opened) and later $41,300 (sealed). Today, although it seems like a scam given the circumstances, another "sealed" copy of the game has sold for $800,200, blowing out the former (already overpriced auction sales.) Un-f-ing real... Wow.. Seriously CURSE YOU MOM AND DAD FOR THROWING AWAY MY OLD GAMES AND CONSOLES! CURSE YOU ALL TOO HEAVEN!

Okay on the serious side, I could see this being a scam as there is very little buyer protection in an auction like this and NONE when the value is over a certain amount, I believe its $10,000. So should I be in the buyer shoes, I'd contact my lawyer and any police department I knew to track where the funds are going in case this joker seller wants to take the $ and run, without shipping out the prize.

The better question left unanswered:

Are there that many collectors that both A) Want this game and B) Have thousands of dollars at their disposal?

I think that if you can spend $800,000 on a game, you can spend a few dollars and hours to take an airplane and pickup the game yourself ;)

Well that was awesome. I wonder if he can still get 40k for it tho? Extremely over priced or valued pending on who you ask, but whatever.

I'm sure eBay was pissed. They lost out on $50,000 in final value fees minimum lol

Hahaa, shipping is only $6. I think I would have that thing insured a little bit.
