Private tracker SceneTorrents closes down

article published on 30 November, 2009

The NFO of the site's final torrent reads as follows: "By now most of you already know that ScT will be going offline permanently. However, due to pending legal issues, we are not at liberty to speak ... [ read the full article ]

For every one that falls, 10 more rise. And I know because some of the trackers I'm on are fully welcoming in former ST members.

Isohunt is still around and seems to be relatively impervious to the legal system..................though I could be wrong..........for some reason I beleive they're in the middle east somewhere like Iran.

Isohunt has always been my first choice and Mininova.org second so I highly recommend as there is very little I have NOT found on it.

w00t at TorrentLeech is kind enough to offer free invites to former SCT members. Visit the TL IRC chan for more info.

RIP SceneTorrents, you fought "the man" hard, but in the end "the man" always wins. Many of your Fans will mourn your untimely passing, but they will have many warm memories of your greatness.
On the bright side as you leave the scene, one of your competitors will take over where you left off, and hopefully make a name for themselves. That is the way of the internet.
We thank Roseanne (aka the fat lady) for singing the final song in honor of your passing.

The tracker takedown's are in full swing judging by the last couple of months or so. Wonder what will happen when all the major ones get taken down. Will the majority of people still be saying the usual bullshit line of 'for every 1 taken down, 10 pop up'?

Very fast, very exclusive. The second fastest private tracker I've ever been on. Kinda place where you can max out your connection (downloading) on 7 seeds.

manrod and tatsh, you are both right. A start up pulls less than 1% of the big three that are now down. So the big 3 has cost the cause 50-75 %. Two of the 3 have some trackers still up and running. No, the battle is being lost, by this time next year there will not be much going on. Not only will all the old timers be off the market but anti-P2P laws will be in place in most of the bigger offending contries. They have also developed all sorts of robot apps to raid clients. The latest I have heard is they alter a few blocks so if your client is fooled you wind up with tainted goods. That is the best one yet. Being a programmer I appreciate the moves 'the enemy' has made.

The industry has pumped as much as they can into the effort and it has paid off. Only a fool would assume that it would last forever. There will always be something so the cyber police will need to reinvent themselves. I suspect there may be a time where the funding will dry up.

Hopefully you have been DLing enough to keep you happy for the rest of your life. There will be other ways but I will not be going there. I am sitting pretty fat, socking it away for years.

So for you its more about convenience and getting the best service you can find. A shame the industry is to bust hording monopolies than trying to sell stuff to the masses....
