Wow, realy? I know apple blocks a lot of good apps because they are too usefull or because people want them, or because of the results of a coin flip...but to remove a 8-month-old app that was breaking no rules just because an alternative became available? That's BS.

You are shocked at Apple's move? Of course they would not let the two apps duke it out for popularity. That is not the Job's way.
