Sony will release FIFA 2010 World Cup on 3D Blu-ray

Sony has announced it will be producing the 2010 FIFA World Cup in 3D for Blu-ray, after it covers the event using Sony 3D cameras. The company will then release the "Official 3D Film" of the event on Blu-ray, so far without a timetable or price. Maybe we will get to see a giant riot in 3D...I would pay for that movie.

Maybe if they had broadcasted the qualifiers in 3d the refs would have been able to see that Ireland was screwed by Thierry Henry's handball...

Don't count on this resolving such disputes. Just think of the riot that would be caused if they got different results from the 2D and 3D recordings!

This is the coolest thing ever. The world cup will be put on sony 3-D blu-ray after it is filmed with special cameras

if this is the new 3D standard and not another anaglyph release then yes you will need a new television to receive the 3D effect. But all 3D releases are backwards compatible with 2D systems just not in 3D.
