Vizio to add Wireless HD to HDTVs

article published on 4 January, 2010

Popular HDTV maker Vizio has announced that it will begin integrating Wireless HD technology into its HDTVs, using SiBEAM 60GHz chipsets. The company can begin doing so after it completes its application to join the WirelessHD Association, which seems more like a formality than anything. Vizio and SiBEAM will introduce their new XVT Pro TV lineup of LED-backlit machines at the upcoming CES event. ... [ read the full article ]

"The tech is also known to break through any physical barriers such as walls or furniture" is absolutely FALSE! In fact, 60 GHz transmissions as defined in the IEEE 802.15.3c specification which governs all WirelessHD devices actually attenuates in air due to the resonance of Oxygen! 60 GHz will penetrate walls composed of certain materials, but it typically reflects "everywhere," bouncing around the environment and creating significant delayed energy that must be equalized or rejected by the receiver. The magic here is achieved by using steerable beams of radio energy, taking advantage of the significant reflections created in the environment within 10 meters of the transmitter. WirelessHD typically uses a complex high order modulation called OFDM (Orthoronal Frequency Division Multiplexing) that aggregates many (2^n) modulated radio frequency carriers into a symbol that when properly implemented inherently avoids the typical effects of multipath distortion. In summary, it defenitely works, but will not penetrate metallic walls, or even drywall or wood to any useable extent.

the technology allows for streaming of lossless 1080p at 4Gbps without interfering with any other wireless products
