Workaround in the works for Xbox Live bans

article published on 14 November, 2009

Earlier this week we reported that 1 million Xbox Live members had been banned from the service for using modified consoles, a significant portion of the 20 million XBL subscribers. This weekend, 360mods is reporting that a possible workaround is in the works, that will help permanently banned users to access XBL again without having to buy a new console. Says the post: As I'm sure ... [ read the full article ]

While I do like the ability for modders and homebrewers to do their magic. I a surprised at how few have mentioned hackers when it comes to this whole ban business. Hackers on online gaming for PC is a reason many people have made flight to consoles, and I imagine a few of the people supporting modded systems are those rallying against cheaters. A users support for modded consoles seem to be firmly rooted in what THEY want, and not what it may be allowing the the xbox environment.

Wallhackers suck.

This is stupid you can't do that method unless you haven't upgraded to the new dashboard meaning you couldn't connect to live anyway. So you wouldn't be banned by the latest ban-hammer. Also Ixtreme LT is no good if your already banned is it! We still have nothing :-(.

MS should have built a better system one where online play can not be hacked.Frankly if you use you'r modded system online as a normal system be ready to have it whacked. Hows the PS3 modding coming along anyway?

This method is just far to complicated to the average flashed 360 user, I think, instead of full out looking into this stuff I'd rather just buy a broken 360 and do an x-clamps fix.

So I did. The total cost including items needed to fix and the broken console was less than $20 and a few hours on a sick day to make sure I was doing things right. Before it had error 0020, now it works!

Not wasting news and forum space because nobody attempts resulting in actual game sales and profit for the developer so they don't give up like PSP and Xbox

Misleading title. This will NOT workaround any bans. It will avoid them, though. Should use a better title.

WRONG WRONG WRONG. Developers have been turning profits, prime example is MW2. If they aren't turning a profit, the game is either bad or the economy. Do some research before you start bashing pirates.

@ZippyDSM:

Live has not been hacked, the console itself has, allowing for the booting of backups. It is borderline impossible to cheat on live, unless you're counting ingame glitches. Take your ill-researched PS3 fanboyism somewhere else, please.

@jaqafter:

It is almost impossible/difficult to cheat on live like you would with Halo 2. Modding is exclusively to booting backups.

hahaha.. that cpu key method isn't going anywhere. to get round a server side ban you have to hack the server or convince it you have a different lump of hardware.

Why do you think the way they detect has remained a secret? .. because it's so funny watching all the headless chickens running around shooting in the dark and making BS claims about "stealth patches" .. as people have just found out.. those mean nothing at all.

Workaround for live account ban.. errrmmm.. I smell that same old smell here.. once M$ ban a live account for abuse it stays banned... the account has nothing to do with the console,

I figured I would get banned eventually so I wasn't that shocked a week ago when I did get banned. More than anything I hope someone figures out a way to restore hard drive functionality to already banned consoles. The new GTA just can't run without an install it looks like crap. I miss this feature more than live.

I went and got another console only because I want to install to the hard drive. Its amazing how much I miss that. The 360 is so much quieter and way smoother when the game is installed on the drive. I could care less about live. I like updates and addons but the hard drive is my main issue.

Can anybody tell me if I put my hard drive from the banned 360 on to a 360 that is not modded, can I still use the gamer tag and saves from the banned box? Or will I just get banned on the new 360 as well.

Is that why we see so many great PSP games out there?
Not to mension that no new developers heading to PSP?
MW2 is on DS. Easily it could have been on PSP but they stayed away.

As far as I know(and what everyone tells me) they ban consoles not accounts or harddrives or data.

That's funny because I just tried it and all my saves and my game profile are corrupted and can't be used. I don't know or care about achievements but the saves and Profile are corrupted.

Some of the data on the HDD will be corrupted if its used on a banned unit. So once you get banned stop useign the HDD if you value your data...

I had a problem with my GT being corrupt it wasn't from a banned console. What I did thou was delete the gamer tag and recover them. worked fine after that. Hope this helps.

I would try that but right now I don't have a 360 that's not modded. If I go on-line with the second 360 I fear I will get that one banned as well. Hopefully the new one shows up in the next day or two.

as cool as it is to mod ur system with the firmware hack. i wouldn't risk it. the xbox is a 300 dollar system for those of us that bought the premium ones back when it was launched. i myself do care about my achievement score and game saves.

if hackin ur system is worth losing game saves. be my guest lol. least with PSP soft mods those are ok.

You're a moron. The cpu-key method allows you to flash the NAND with one from another console, effectively giving your console a new identity. You're using the same console, but it's ID doesn't say that.

And stealth patches DO work. M$ detected the iXtreme behavior, not the stealthed ISOs.

@ZippyDSM:

The save corruption is carried at the profile level. So if you deleted the corrupted profile and transfer a non-corrupted one over, you're ok. I copied my saves from a 20gb to my new 120gb and they work just fine after removing my banned profile. This obviously has to be done on a non-banned console, though se7ensins posted a method allowing you to gain gamerscore points on a banned console.

I be a fail60 noob so correct add in anything you want ^^

So basically the info is ok but using your profile on a a banned system= corruption, you need to redo the profile on a new unit to clean things up, right? (yes I know you just said that my zippy has to ask in a zippy way :P)
