Copying The Sims 2

We have the sims 2 and a lot of expansions on 2 pc's we want to be able to just use 1 disc for when both people want to play sims 2 at the same time. The newest expansion we have is Sims 2 apartment life so to play the game it requires the sims 2 apartment life disc. I know how to make images and mount the image to a virtual drive using alcohol 120% or Daemon Tools but it doesn't work. It will either same emulation software detected or something along the lines of game requires original disc not back up (1000). Maybe i'm doing something wrong not sure...would like some tips on anything else I can try. One thing though...the sims 2 apartment life disc we have is DVD-ROM as most of the expansions to buy in stores are all this way. Not sure if that makes a difference for the steps I most do.
