LITE-ON DVDRW 1653S does not read cd-r media

Hi Guys, I have a Lite-on 1653s dvdrw drive which will not read or burn to any cd-r media at all. This includes purchased audio cds, data cds. I have updated the firmware, unistalled the drive and rebooted but still does not read or burn to cd-r media. It behaves the same with all software that I use eg. Nero 7 Ultra, Clonecd. But it does read and burn to DVD-R,+R,RW.
