Problems copying/pasting with Samsung CD/DVD drive

am using Samsung SH-S522L CD/DVD drive. I can successfully backup my movies, make MP3 discs using Roxio and can copy Cds. When I try to copy and paste a file, however, it copies to the CD or DVD a file with an arrow and I get the choice to "write these files to disc". When I choose to write to disc, I get the message that the CD is full when it is not. I also cannot format any CD or DVD. Help please! Thanks
