I'm having my first foray into DLNA and I'm running into some issues.

First off... I'm somewhat unimpressed by the abilities of my DLNA "DMA" device which is a sony BDP-S570. The device supports AVCHD files BUT not when they are served via a DLNA server. In fact, the only format the sony supports for DLNA is MPEG2 and DIVX... but DIVX is only supported in systems sold in Canada... not sure why. Anyway, I can populate my DLNA server (Synology NAS) with any format... as long as it's MPEG2 since I happen to be in the US. :-(

So... my sony camcorder records in AVCHD... I convert that to MPEG2... and while the video quality isn't great (compared to AVCHD), I can view my home movies without burning DVDs which is the whole point of this exercise.

Here comes my problem... I also have 20+ hours of older home movies that are recorded in DV format. So... I capture them via my windows system (via firewire) [don't get my started on my macbook's inability to do this]... The format of these files is avi using the dvsd codec (PLEASE PLEASE... I know AVI is just a wrapper!). I then convert these avi files to mpeg2 using the exact same software I used to convert the AVCHD files... move them over to my NAS... fire up the blu-ray... and the sony BDP-S570 does not recognize them.

Huh? It's an mpeg2 file just like the AVCHD file I converted... both use the same codec... why does 1 work and not the other? Any help?

Thanks,
