Hi, after research I figured I'd be better off posting my question on these forums

I have been capturing compressed 720p/1080i files via my Black Magic Intensity Pro through RGB/Component Audio but the files are absolutely HUGE. 1GB roughly for 1 hour files and I'm trying to figure out the best way to compress them. Should I use Xvid or x264? What is the best(freeware) way to go about this?

I know they can be compressed to smaller formats as I have seen but I am completely perplexed aas to HOW, any help would be GREATLY appreciated, thanks for anyone who response!
