My Canon digital camera shoots video in a motion jpeg which results in huge files... about 100megs per minute. I typically use Handbrake to encode them to H264 with files about 18% of the original... while preserving quality? ie, all that fine grain.

But Handbrake doesn?t merge files.

What I'd like to do is find a way to batch merge the original .avi files WITHOUT RECODING so they can be processed in Handbrake. I've tried several merger programs that don?t work with these files. One that at least accepts these files is by SolviegMM. But it has terrible audio synch problems.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

I've used AviDemux to append Mjpeg files from a still camera.
As to batch processing, I can't say much except you can create project files and job lists.
It's a GUI, but I know that it can be used as a CLI - but I've never had use for that feature.

In addition to joining the original files, if you use the same preset for conversion(same resolution/audio..), you can also join the resulting files after the conversion(for example if you convert to MKV, MkvMerge will join the parts).

@attar... I tried AVIDEMUX and always had problems with it. Something to do with an encoder not initializing or somesuch.

@cyprusrom, hey, just discovered XVID4PSP and it seems to solve a few problems. It can handle my odd Canon AVI videos, has x264, and can merge my files without audio sync problems... and it has a good implemnation of XVID which Handbrake never did. So I think I can now get rid of several tools like Handbrake, MainConcept Reference, GK, and StaxRip for a start LOL.

On edit... interesting XVID4PSP doesn't bring up an autolink in text as so many other terms do. Is there some reason for this? Is it not considered a good tool? Or is it an ommision? More here: http://www.winnydows.com/#News

I have Xvid4PSp as well, don't use it much though.
One reason why is not hosted on AD could be because of the requirement to have MSoft's Silverlight to navigate the author's website.
I just download it off other sites, like VideoHelp.
I still use Handbrake as my main H.264 converter.
