MKV demuxer says files have no streams?

Hello, if this in the wrong forum please move it as I wasn't sure.

I have a few MKV files that are softsubbed. I'd like to hardsub them so I can play them via external hard drive.
I loaded the files into a demuxer, and the demuxer can't find any streams. I know there are streams because when I went to play them on my PC, the video worked, the audio was functional and I could select the subtitles. When I go to play them via external hard drive, I can only get video, no subs or audio.

What I'd like to do is demux these and/or convert them so I can watch them with my external hard drive. Is there a way to get around the software saying there's no streams available?
