Hi all. I have been researching this for a while and there is so many different answers. I want to know what is the best video container format that keeps all the video and audio quality. MP4 or MKV
My primary use will be to put my videos on my HP MediaSmart server and stream them to my ps3. I use ps3mediaserver so I can play both MP4 and MKV files without a problem.
And I sometimes play them off my pc which is connected to my HDTV.
I appreciate your pointers and maybe you can shed some light on this. thanks
There is no difference in quality whatsoever, both will have the same video codec, H.264. MKV is a bit more versatile, allows more/multiple audio and subtitle tracks.
There's no difference in the quality - they can hold almost all the same data streams,
with a few exceptions.
The best consideration is the compatibility with your playback device.
No, it doesn't hold more "codecs", it can hold more streams, but if you already have an MP4 that has the proper video, audio, or subtitles, why would you want to do he conversion? Do you want to add other audio streams? Subtitles? There's no reason why you'd convert, no improvement of anything.
