"Divx5.ogm" What???

I recently downloaded a group of files with the ending extension of divx5.ogm
What is that? What do I need in order to play it on my computer?
What do I need to convert it to burn on DVD?

So an avi will work on a DVD to play on my TV? How do I compress the size of the file to get it to fit on the DVD?

The AVI will play directly on your DVD player if it is Divx certified.
Otherwise, you need to convert it to DVD with something like DVD Flick.

I have a set of files that are the divx5.ogm, and another set that are AVI. So if I convert them all with DVD FLick, they will be DVD player compatible. Ok, got that part.
Now, how can I shrink the files so that I can get more than just a couple 30 minutes of video on each DVD?

If they are 30 min long, you should be able to get 5-6 with decent quality.

YAY! I used DVD Flick to get my AVI files on DVD, and it worked fantasticly, thank you!
Now on the ogm files... They all play just fine on my computer, but when I tried to add them to DVD flick, one of the files in the middle of the group will not add because it is "corrupt or truncated". Any thoughts...?

The file that is corrupt, try runing it through Avimux Gui or Video Repair:

Well... Digital Video Repair doesn't recognize the file type, and the Animux gui never worked. I'm operating on Windows 7, don't know if that has anything to do with it.
Do I need to just download a converter and change these files to avi? I've never seen a file name with so many .this.that.ogm before.
Thanks again for all the help, I've been enjoying the first set that worked, after spending over 2 weeks trying to figure it out! Ya'll made my month. Lol

If you're going to be playing DivX/AVI files are your DVD player, you might as well use the free official software from DivX. We just released our new DivX Plus Software which has a new feature called DivX to Go. You just drag the video onto the kind of player you have (Blu-Ray/DVD/PS3...) and it'll convert to the right profile and transfer to USB or burn a disc for FREE (not trialware - totally free).
You can download the DivX Plus Player with DivX to Go for free here:

If your DVD player is DivX-certified (has a DivX logo), then this software will make sure it definitely works.

Try Avidemux. Leave audio and video to copy and save as a new file.

Can't figure our Avidemux, and a divx player isn't going to do me any good...
I don't know if I should treat it as a divx file, or an ogm file...? I'm new to this whole thing, sorry ya'll.

Ya it gave me all kinds of weird errors. Lol. I think its this whole windows 7 thing and the fact that I did it as an upgrade from Vista. Ah, Windows...
Ok got G downloaded and extracted, now how do I use it?

That worked fantasticly, THANK YOU!
But...
One of the files gives me an error message when I try to add it to DVDFLick. It says something about no usable video in the file, and will not add it. I've converted it twice now with the Any Converter, it says complete, plays fine on the computer.
Am I just out of luck on that last file?

try changing it to something else and see if that fixes it.. xvid in a mpeg4 avi should work well.. avidemux is very easy to use IF you read the wiki.
