I have a avi file, it plays in WMP and VLC, but not in my dvd player so need to convert it, although all 3 of my converters aren't working.

I ran the file through MediaInfo, and it came back with this info :

MZ (Executable / Intel i386): 237MiB

Anyone have any ideas how i can convert please

That looks like an EXE file, you say you can play it with VLC/WMP?
What programs did you try and crashed?
Try opening the file with Avidemux and save as a new AVI without re-encoding(leave Audio/Video to copy).

Yes plays fine in WMP / VLC. I tried converting with Bigasoft MKV Converter, Active FLV Video Converter and Any Video Converter.

Will try avidemux

Yes, to whatever messages you get...it is a weird one. You file extension is AVI, MediaInfo reports it as executable, and Avidemux reads it as mpeg...

Go to File->Save->Save Video. Choose a location and give the file a name, including the .AVI extension(Saved_Video.AVI)

Ookay...
Maybe it is an Mpeg-Avidemux has problems sometimes keeping A/V in sync with mpeg files(haven't found/figured out a fix yet).
I still don't know why MediaInfo shows it as an executable file...with an AVI extension.Maybe someone messed around with the extension...
When you play it with VLC,go to Tools->Codec information, and see what is displays.

It seems to be ok, although it plays fast after i ran it through avidemux, i just converted it using my Active FLV and it seems to be fine :D

Thanks so much.

Just one more question, i never know what video size to convert to, i usually do 640x386 or 720x576 but i'm left with 2 inch space each size of my TV, what is the best size to convert to that will play on a DVD player?

So you converted successfully the output from Avidemux?

When you say you try to "play on a DVD Player", is it a regular standalone, or a Divx/mpeg-4 capable player...Does Active FLV convert to anything other than FLV format?
Not sure what you're converting to....

Yes it converted fine from avidemux, although the video i saved from avidemux plays fast and is blurry.

My DVD player is a Yamada 6600, so plays divx files, yes Active FLV converts to a number of formats.

I always convert to AVI - Divx Video, but i am left with couple of inches space either side of the TV

Use your DVD Player/TV remote to switch the display to 16:9/wide screen.
When you convert, if you have an option to set the AR, set to 16:9/1.777

Yes i set my TV to wide 16:9, also in my converting software i have aspect ratio set to 16:9, thats what made me think it must be video size that i am getting wrong.

No big deal, i can always try a few settings and see how it gets on.

Many thanks for your help, it is much appreciated.
