Target Size is where you will end up putting your info into.
Like: Most of the new DVD's Movies come out print on a dobble layer disk (DVD9 with 8.5GB to no less than 4.7GB). If you like identical results on your back-up copy, you do not need to compress, but you will need a DVD9 blank disk. No matter if you want the Full Movie or Just the Movie Only.
Now if you want this "Big Movie" back-up to be fit into a DVD5 (4.5GB) disk....you need to compress, The more you compress,less quality results you will get. So now it make you think that you do not need all the extras, previews, how it's make, etc. and you best choose is just to extract the "Movie Only" to do not lost much quality on your back-up disk when you compressing.
Note: Some new Movies come out still press on a DVD5.....so you do not need to compress them at all even if you go for the Full Disk. But still you have the choose to go for the "Movie Only" if you like.
ok i was ripping single episodes off a dvd and saw this and set it to 100MB per episode to see what would happen and it seemed like the quality dropped a bit. what if you make it larger than what the original file was

When you convert from DVD to AVI using Divx/Xvid compression, you intend to have one file in smaller size, otherwise, what's the point of the conversion anyway??
Usually for one episode, most would set the target size to around 350 MB. For a regular full movie( ~90 min.), around 700 MB. If you want better quality, set a higher target size. Anything over 1Gb for a full movie would look great, and so should a 400MB episode.
