can't play DvdShrink dvd's in computer dvd drive!

I am a newbie and have shrunk two movies but I cannot play them on my computer. They play fine on my dvd player but computer doesn't even recognise that a dvd is in the drive. I have tried this with Windows XP and Ubuntu 9.10 and after the initial spin up the drive light goes out. I cannot not explore the disk on My Computer or mount the disk in Ubuntu. How can I get these computer operating systems to read the disks? Are these disks useless to view on my computer or can they be salvaged?

Is that the drive you used to rip the movies to your HDD?

Thanks for your response.

It is the same drive that I used DVDShrink to burn the movies to the dvds. I thought I would be able to play the dvd's on my computer but both operating systems Windows XP and Ubuntu don't recognise the dvds. I should explain that I have made a dual boot system with XP on one hard drive and Ubuntu on another but it is the same dvd burner that created the disks.
