I am using Nero Recode, from the Nero 7 Premium Package. I have just recoded of my old DVDs to MPEG-4, with Dual-Pass encoding and ?Extra Quality?, all other settings are the default. When I play these back, the picture is fine, and the music even appears to be fine, but the speech/dialogue is completely inaudible or very low and muffled. SOME sound effects might be at regular volume, but I can?t be sure if all of them were playing back properly either.
At first I assumed it was something to do with my Nero Recode settings, but before I spent too much time fiddling with settings I don?t completely understand, I tried running an AVI file (created by someone else) that I KNOW WORKS because I can play it on another computer and it works fine. The same thing happens with this avi file on my computer ? ie: music and picture but no speech.
Based on this, I now believe it might have something to do with codecs on my new(er) PC. Does anybody else agree with this? Or could it be something else? I have an idea of what codecs do in theory, but that?s about the limit of my knowledge on them.
I have trolled a number of forums but never found a definitive answer or series of steps to try and remedy this situation. Perhaps I?m not searching properly.
Can anybody shed any light on this situation for me?
