Cannot play .avi files on Xbox360 using WMC

I've been going through hoops trying to make my xvid videos play over the wireless network on my xbox360, and have run into a snag. I was able to connect the xbox360 to my computer using Windows Media Center, and can view photos and play music from the computer via the xbox. I then had to download Windows Media Control in order to get ffdshow to work with WMC (but only after downloading the x64 version of the k-lite codec pack). This worked to successfully allow me to watch the xvid files on WMC, but only on my computer. When I load WMC on the xbox and try to play the same videos, it says I don't have the appropriate codec.

Side note, I CAN play xvid avi DVDs in the xbox360, when I loaded my first video dvd into the xbox it prompted me to download the codec and then worked fine. It just doesn't seem to want to work via WMC.

Any ideas?

Windows Vista Home Premium (64bit)
Installed software: VLC, K-Lite codec packs x86 and x64, Windows Media Center and Windows Media Control
Network: 802.11N
