Hello please help

I bought my partner a laptop several weeks ago, she is not massively into computers so uses it mostly to browse sites.
But we have a small child so my partner wanted to play kids dvds on the laptop and in doing this we both noticed that every so many minutes the video playback will jump and the audio gets stucks and makes a car like exhaust noise. None of these kids dvds are copies they are all purchased dvds.

This also happens when we play mp3 songs either from an audio cd or even downloaded mp3, these all play fine on my pc just not the laptop.

Its not like the Laptop even has a virus, this choppy playback happened on day one of taking the Laptop out of the box.

I have been very frustrated with this my desktop pc which I am using right now is not like this and infact my pc is several years older with lower specs so why would a new laptop be doing this, I have tried googling for answers and I get nothing.
