I have copied two "avi" files in the first session and another two "avi" files in the second session in a dvd disk using ashampoo burning studio.
When I play it in a DVD player, it doesn't recognize the second session files. In the computer, I am able to see all the four files I had added to the disk.

I am unable to understand as to why this happens. Am I making any mistake in adding files Can someone guide me so that I am able to view both the sessions.

A DVD disk should contain an AUDIO_TS folder - which is empty.
There should be a single VIDEO_TS folder which contains the video files for the titles.
If each of the four avi's was authored as a separate Title, you would have :
VTS_01 and it's associated files.
VTS_02 and it's associated files.
VTS_03 and it's associated files.
VTS_04 and it's associated files.
All located in the VIDEO_TS folder.

My DVD player can play "avi" files directly. Hence I had not converted them as DVD files.

My question is : why the first two files burnt in the first session are shown in the DVD player menu but not the files of the second session?

I had chosen "Burn files and folders"/"Update an existing CD/DVD/Blue ray disk" in Ashampoo burning studio 10 menu while I added the files in the second session.

Hope I have explained my problem. Thank you.

I wasn't aware that it was a data disk and since the burning software I use (ImgBurn) doesn't support it, I can't offer anything - except that there are many threads on forums regarding the inability of many standalone players to read these disks.

this is a "disk sessions" problem.. you have 2 sessions on the disk so any player will only see one or the other.. your mistake is obvious.. when you make an unfinalized disk as a multisession you have to "continue first session" for any additions.. not as in your case "start new session" which effectively finalizes the disk and then treats the new burn as a smaller sized completely new disk..

simple.. surprised your burning software didn't pop up a warning about one or other of the sessions becoming unreadable when you tried to add the second lot of files.

Using Ashampoo Burning studio and I have selected "Burn files and folders/update an existing CD/DVD/Blue-ray disk". I dont find in Ashampoo a provision to continue first session. I would be thankful if you can let me know which software you are using and your recommendation of software to use. Thanks
